Outfitting for Memories
The mall buzzed with weekend chaos. Shoppers moved with purpose, weaving in and out of stores; kids tugged impatiently at their parents, drawn to every shiny display in sight. The hum of background chatter and music from different shops filled the air. Inside Torrid, I stood in front of a rack of jeans, absently flipping through the selection as my thoughts drifted to my upcoming trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains with Cypher’s family.
A whole week away in the mountains. With his family. I smiled to myself every time I thought about it, already picturing the cozy cabin nestled among the pines, long hikes through crisp mountain air, and nights spent around a roaring bonfire. I’d met his family three months ago at Sunday dinner, and to say they welcomed me with open arms would be an understatement. His parents radiated kindness and hospitality that could make anyone feel like they’d been part of the family all along. And Cypher's sister, Symphony, was wild in the best way. We clicked instantly as if we’d been friends for years.
I pulled a pair of high-waist jeans from the rack, holding them up to the light in the dim store, trying to figure out if they qualified as “mountain chic”—whatever the hell that meant. After her text last night, I’d let Symphony get in my head:
Don’t pack anything ugly. We’ve got a lot of family photos to take, and if you mess them up, you’re on your own. Mom takes this really seriously, unfortnately.
And I knew she wasn’t kidding. Her mom was a natural fashionista, and the whole family had style to match.
As I made my way toward the dressing room, arms draped with potential outfits, something—or rather, someone—caught my eye. Across the mall, I spotted Cypher’s ex strutting around with a new guy on her arm. He was tall, bearded, and looking at her like she hung the moon. I snickered to myself and shook my head. The world was small, but Cedar Springs was practically microscopic at this point.
Well, isn’t this a cute little moment, I thought to myself. Lauren didn’t know me from Adam, let alone that I was with Cypher now. And honestly, that made it even funnier. It wasn’t jealousy or insecurity bubbling up inside me. Nope, it was pure amusement. Seeing her with someone new didn’t stir up any drama. Cypher was my man now, and the only thing that could change that was us.
After trying on my picks, I grabbed a few more options for the trip and headed for the exit, feeling good and confident about my choices. My phone vibrated in my pocket just as I fumbled with my keys in my purse. I pulled it out and smiled at Symphony's name flashing across the screen.
I answered with a grin, “Hey, Symph. What’s up?”
“Indigo!” Symphony’s voice was alive with excitement through the phone. “Girl, are you ready for this trip? Because I need it. My students have me on the brink of either tears or tequila. Or both.”
I burst out laughing. “Symph, it’s the weekend and you’re still working? That’s your first mistake. I cut my vacation responder on yesterday. Prayers to my supervisor and those aggravating clients.”
“Oh, believe me, once I finish grading these boring ass essays, I’ll be on the same wavelength. I only have about five left. What are you up to?”
“Just finished all my shopping, so I’m officially good to go,” I said, glancing down at the bags in my hand. “I’m counting the hours until I’m sipping wine with you by the fire. It’s going to be perfect.”
“Mhm. Wine, fires, and maybe a little gossip if I can get you to spill some tea about Cy.”
I rolled my eyes but smiled. “In that case, you’re going to be disappointed. Your brother’s a vault, and so am I.”
“Ugh, you two are no fun. I’m sure I'll get the good stuff out of you once the wine kicks in,” she teased and snickered. “But alright, girl, I’ll see you tomorrow. Get some good rest and prepare yourself for a food fight or something. If we don’t come back with a legendary story, I’ll be disappointed.”
“Oh, I’m sure we’ll have stories,” I quipped, knowing how unpredictable she was.
We said our goodbyes, and as I tucked my phone back into my bag, I couldn’t stop smiling. This trip was going to be something special. I could feel it in my bones. Cypher, the mountains, and his crazy but lovable family were exactly the escape I needed.
From the moment I agreed to be his woman, I knew he would be everything I needed.
Ready for the Road
I tossed the last duffel bag into the trunk of my SUV rental and gave it a solid pat, feeling pretty good about being packed and ready for the trip—a week in the Blue Ridge Mountains with Indigo and my family to celebrate Mom’s 60th birthday. The timing couldn’t have been better. Between work and life, I needed this break as much as anyone.
Leaning against the car, I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my messages. I fired off a quick one to my new virtual assistant, Camille, who would be holding down the fort for Lab Results Tutoring while I was away. Things had taken off in the last few months, more than I expected, and Camille had become my secret weapon. She even handled virtual sessions with the kids whenever I had too much on my plate, and they loved her, especially the boys, who all seemed to have a crush on her. She had that same easygoing but sharp energy that made her click with them instantly.
“Hey, Camille. Just a reminder that I’m outta here for the week, family trip and all. But if anything urgent pops up, shoot me a text. You know how to reach me. Otherwise, handle things as you see fit. I trust you got this.”
Her response came through almost instantly:
“Don’t worry, I’ve got everything under control here. You just enjoy your time with the fam. All is handled!”
I smiled and nodded at her reply. Camille was solid, so I knew my business was in good hands while I was gone.
Just as I tucked my phone into my pocket, it dinged again, this time with a text from Indigo:
“Come over. The door’s unlocked.”
I smirked, glancing up to see her car parked back in the driveway, assuming she’d returned from her shopping trip not too long ago. I locked up my place and strode across the street, that familiar excitement building from the mere thought of seeing her.
When I stepped inside, her essence hit me immediately—the scent of vanilla swirling through the air and soft music playing in the background. I called out for her, but she didn’t answer. I didn’t need a reply, though; I knew she was around here somewhere, probably setting me up for something.
Sure enough, I found her lounging in her bedroom on the loveseat at the foot of her bed, wearing one of those oversized hoodies she always made look better than any runway model. Her thick, bare thighs were on full display, legs crossed at the ankles with gold anklets adorning them. She had that look on her face—that playful, ‘I’ve got plans for you,’ look I couldn’t get enough of.
“You called?” I asked, stepping toward her, my voice low, matching the energy in the room.
“Yes,” she replied, her voice soft and intent. “You’re mine for the rest of the night before I have to share you with your family for a week.”
“I’ll never argue with that,” I murmured as she stood and closed the space between us, her hands sliding up my chest and curling into my shirt as she rose onto her toes.
“Good,” she whispered, her full-glossed lips brushing my ear. “Because I want you all to myself until then.”
Before I could respond, her mouth was on mine, slow and teasing at first, then deeper, and more demanding. Her nails grazed my skin as she tugged my shirt up and off. A low groan escaped me as her body pressed into mine. How she fit perfectly against me meant everything to me.
She pulled back just long enough to look me up and down, her eyes pleading for acceptance as if I’d ever turn her down.
I lifted her into my arms, wrapping them around her curvaceous body as she secured her thighs around me. I carried her to the bed and laid her in the middle of it, forever in awe as I took her in. Without breaking our gaze, I lowered myself over her, my hands slipping beneath the hem of her hoodie, determined to explore the silken skin underneath. I gripped her hips as she spread her legs wide, inviting me in before teasingly clamping them shut again.
“Indi,” I husked.
She produced a playful giggle. “You love it.”
She was right; I did love it. Too much.
I slid the hoodie over her head and tossed it aside, taking a moment to appreciate the sight of her bare, full-figured, lush body. “You’re such a beautiful woman,” I murmured, my voice full of admiration and need.
“Show me how much you think so,” she soothed, and I didn’t need to be told twice.
Finally settled between her thighs, I kissed her deeply as we began to lose ourselves in each other. She arched into me, her breath catching as I pressed kisses down her neck, my lips tracing a slow path along her collarbone and down to her chest. I wanted to taste every inch of her. I preferred taking my time, making sure she felt every lingering, sensuous second of pleasure.
Her nails raked down my back, her hips grinding against me as I kissed my way lower. I let my lips hover just above her pussy, allowing the tension to build as she squirmed beneath me.
“Cy…” she breathed. “Please.”
“Patience, baby,” I murmured against her skin, my lips tickling the inside of her thigh.
But when I finally gave her what she wanted, I didn’t hold back.
Her body trembled, and her breath hitched as I vibrated my tongue over her clit. One of her hands gripped the sheets while the other rubbed my head. Her hips lifted off the bed as she lost herself within minutes, her voice breaking through her moans, cursing, and body-quakes.
I moved back up, kissing her deeply and sensing her pulse race against my lips. Her arms wrapped around me, pulling me closer, and I was grateful for it because I wasn’t done with her. I freed my shaft, easing the pressure from my pants, and pushed inside her slowly, smirking as she gasped while I barely held back my own. But when she wrapped her legs around me, pulling me deeper into her gushing heat, all of my restraint went out the window.
“Damn,” I husked, low moans rumbling out of me.
We moved together, our bodies locked in sync as everything else fell away. The trip, my family, the world outside—none of it mattered.
There was only us.
Just as her breath quickened and her nails dug into my back, I knew she was close again.
“I love you,” I whispered against her lips, staring at her flawless, cocoa skin beneath me. Her full lips slightly parted as she caught her breath, and those deep, brown eyes pulled me in. “I love you so much, Indi.”
She gently rolled her fingertips down my cheek as she looked up at me, her eyes misty. “I love you too, Cy. Always.”
Like every other time, we remained tangled and lost in each other, hearts still racing as the world slowly crept back in.
Still, when we were together, nothing else mattered.
